My neck, my back….my neck and my back.

Posted in Blog, Life on August 6th, 2010 by Dougomite

So I woke this morning with a crick in my neck. ‘Crick in my neck’ isn’t something I hear people say very often, ever in fact, so I’m going to include the definition in case you never do either.

Crick

-noun  1. A sharp, painful spasm of the muscles, as of the neck or back.

As long as I don’t turn my head to far to the upper right it feels fine. I would blame this on me getting old except that I had the exact same thing happen when I was in about 6th grade. Except back then I had still never heard of a ‘crick’ so I went around telling everyone I sprained the muscles in my neck carrying my bass home. The teacher was nice enough to send me to the nurse to get a heat pack to put on my neck all day. My friends had a field day though with standing on my right side and calling my name. Since I couldn’t just turn my head I had to turn my entire upper torso to look at them, it was a pretty funny site. Luckily it was all better the next day. Hopefully the same is true this time because I got big plans tomorrow, plans that would be made less awesome if I can’t have full range of motion in my neck.<!–more–>

I’m blaming this on whatever weird position I ended up sleeping in. I was on an air mattress that slightly deflates throughout the night, couple that with the fact that I fell asleep with my laptop and iPhone in bed with me causing me to constantly shift around to move the electronics and my pillow and fix the covers. I’m assuming at some point my brain put me in strange position to accommodate the sinking bed, the electronics floating around and the covers. A strange position that my neck now disagrees with.

The cool thing out of all this though is I had some cool dreams. Seems like my brain just took all the stuff that’s been on my brain all week and mashed it together in one dream. *Warning: if you don’t like reading about other people’s dreams then just skip the rest of this*

OK throughout the week I had about 4 major things on my mind, not getting the apartment I want because of some BS with an old apartment place, not getting to join my friends on a trip to chill and relax on the river and the fact that I haven’t really gone out all week and meet any new ladies. I remember the dream starting with me and some friends out at a bar/restaurant hanging out. When it’s time to leave we all head outside but when I get outside I realize I need to go back inside for something, I think it was to pay for an apartment or sign something. Once I get back inside I think “What if I take too long and they leave without me”, so I turn around to go back outside. Just as my dream-self had suspected everyone is already on a school bus driving away. I wave at them, they wave back and yell “we’ll meet you there”… or I yell that, not sure. Well with nothing else to do I decide to head back into the bar. Now I get self-conscious about sitting in a bar drinking by myself. So I scan the room for the least conspicuous place to sit alone. There of course isn’t any spot that fits my needs so I decide I need to at least sit on a stool at the bar. The best available seat is next to a gorgeous girl. So I man up and ask if the seat is free. She says she’s saving it for a friend. Then I ask about the other 6 seats around here…yes, suddenly there were a ton of seats around her. The bar had morphed into some weird shape and there are tons of seats around her, even a stack of chairs right next to her.  She says she’s saving all of them for friends. We then joke and flirt about how she can’t possibly need all these chairs and end up deciding that I’ll sit next to her till her friends arrive.

Then the dream ends. Was a very satisfying dream and I’m thinking that it must’ve been the only way for my brain to keep me asleep while keeping my neck in the horrible position that resulted in the crick. After seeing Inception it kinda gives dreams a new meaning. I hope the movie will convince scientists to push further into studying dreams.

Culmination of Differences

Posted in Blog, Life, Story on January 24th, 2010 by Dougomite

Ok, so the UK has quite a few differences than the US. The differences that have been most noticeable to me though are the social differences. I don’t have time to go into all of them right now but I’ll cover a few, and even toss a story in afterwards. Read more »

So Far Paris has Impressed Me

Posted in Blog, Life on September 12th, 2009 by Dougomite

So far paris has proved it’s chock full of cute and incredibly attractive women, with style and a sense of fashion, which is hot. The sucky part is I couldn’t really talk to one if I tried because I know absolutly no French….which currently is annoying the hell out of me. Paris is now on my list of places to live, or atleast meet women from, and French is now on my list of languages to learn. Read more »
