Scotland bound!
Ok I’m gonna make this one short since I need to be heading to bed in order to somewhat negate the effects of jetlag. It’s currently 7pm in Austin which makes it 1am here(see the need for me to already be in bed). Before I head off just wanted to capture some thoughts of the day.
The 8hr fight from Detroit to Amsterdam was surprisingly painless. Having inflight movies, games, dinner and breakfast made the whole trip fly by…get it ‘fly by’. Getting into the country was surprisingly easy I was prepared to be grilled and be asked a tons of questions but I think the only question I was asked was what my job was at which point they responded with “Oh cool.”. I totally expected them to not believe me, think I made the job up and promptly put me on a plane back to the U.S., luckily they didn’t. When I said ‘Oh wow that was easy.” the lady responded with “Well you already did all the hard work.” I’m guessing she was talking about the work visa which indeed was hard and expensive to get, so it was nice to hear that it really paid off. Some poor guy in front of me was getting asked millions of questions and for more paperwork, I felt kinda bad for him….but then I passed and forgot all about him.
Once here, it definitely feels like a different place. It’s like everything is the same but also very different. They have stores that look just like Wal-mart, Target, Gamestop, and everything else but everything in the stores is named something different than what I’m used too. It’s an odd feeling, like a retail version of invasion of the body snatchers.
Anyway, I walked around for a bit getting used to the place and finding a supermarket and electronics store but I didn’t think to get any pictures and now it’s dark so that’ll have to wait till tomorrow but I can get pictures of the apartment so I’ll share those.
